A home shift is a sequence of jobs rather than one. Survey and estimate, packing room by room, loading, transit, unloading and placement. Each stage has its own cost line and its own risk, which is why the estimate separates them before the crew arrives.
What a home shifting service includes
Packing material and packing labour come first. Corrugated cartons, bubble wrap, stretch film, moving blankets and wooden crates for fragile items are carried on the vehicle. Beds and wardrobes are dismantled at the pickup and reassembled at the drop. Loading is done with trolleys and straps, the vehicle is covered, and unloading places each item in the room the label says. The inventory is checked at both ends and the delivery receipt is signed only after that check.
How home shifting is priced
Home shifting charges depend on the size of the load, the distance between the two addresses, the floor and lift access at both ends, the packing grade and the date. A 1 BHK move costs less than a 3 BHK move in the same distance slab because the volume of goods sets the truck size and the crew size. GST at 18 per cent is added at invoice stage and shown as its own line.
How to shift home easily
Declutter before the survey so the volume reflects what you actually move. Defrost the refrigerator and drain the washing machine the night before. Keep cash, jewellery and documents with you. Confirm the society gate pass and the lift booking a day ahead. Label the boxes you have packed yourself. Choose a mid month, mid week date and the whole day goes easier and cheaper.
Transporting AC and other appliances
Air conditioners need a technician to de gas before the move and re gas at the drop. That is usually a third party service and is quoted separately. Washing machines are drained and the drum is locked. Refrigerators are defrosted and stood upright through transit. Geysers, chimneys and water purifiers are disconnected before the crew arrives.

Best time of year for a house shift
January, February and November are the cheapest months to move. Within a month, the 8th to the 22nd is the quiet window. A Tuesday to Thursday booking costs 15 to 25 per cent less than a weekend or a month end date, and an early morning start avoids city traffic on loading day.
Monsoon runs from June to October and it changes the packing. Waterproof wrapping adds Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500 and it is worth it on any route that crosses a coast or a river plain. Month end and the last weekend of a lease carry 15 to 25 per cent more demand and the same premium on price, so book 15 days ahead if that is your window.
