How much do packers and movers cost in India
A local house shifting job starts at Rs 2,800 for a single room and runs Rs 5,000 to 8,000 for a 1 BHK, Rs 8,000 to 14,000 for a 2 BHK and Rs 12,000 to 20,000 for a 3 BHK inside the same city. Intercity relocation services start near Rs 9,000 for a short haul of 300 km and reach Rs 45,000 and above for a 3 BHK travelling 2,000 km. All figures exclude 18 per cent GST.
Those bands cover complete packing, labour, transport in the right sized vehicle, and delivery with unpacking at the destination. What moves the number is the volume of goods, the distance between the two addresses, the floor and lift access at both ends, and the month you move. Car transport and bike transport charges
Vehicle transport runs on its own rate card because a car or a bike travels in a carrier, not in the household truck. Enclosed carriers cost more than open ones and they are worth it for a new or a premium vehicle. Both services can run with the household load or separately.

What decides the price of a move
Ten things set the final figure and a survey is where all ten are counted. Volume comes first. The number of cartons, the furniture and the appliances decide the vehicle, and the vehicle decides the transport line. Distance is the second, measured in road kilometres between the two addresses rather than on a map.
Floor and lift access is the third. A stair carry costs Rs 800 to Rs 2,000 per floor when the lift cannot take a wardrobe or a mattress. The fourth is the month and the day. Month end and the last weekend of a lease carry 15 to 25 per cent more demand and the same premium on price. Mid month dates from the 8th to the 22nd are the cheapest window.
The fifth is packing material, charged at cost on its own line. A 2 BHK uses 25 to 35 cartons, stretch wrap, bubble wrap for fragile items and furniture blankets. The sixth is insurance at 2 to 3 per cent of the declared value. The seventh is tolls and permits on an intercity run, billed as they are incurred.
The eighth is the season. Monsoon adds waterproof wrapping at Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500 and it is worth it on any route that crosses a coast or a river plain. The ninth is waiting time at either end, if the lift booking or the gate pass is late. The tenth is GST at 18 per cent on a full service move. Our transparent pricing puts all ten on the estimate.
Documents, verification and how to avoid a bad booking
Five papers close a move properly. The first is a written estimate on the company letterhead with the GSTIN printed on it, itemised into packing material, labour, transport, tolls and insurance. The second is the GST invoice at the time of the advance. The third is the inventory list made at the pickup and signed by both sides. The fourth is the Lorry Receipt for an intercity move. The fifth is the proof of delivery, signed only after the inventory has been checked.
Four warning signs separate a real mover from a broker. A phone quote far below the market, given without a survey, is bait for an inflated bill on the day. A refusal to give a GSTIN is a refusal to be held accountable. A demand for most of the payment up front is a risk; 10 to 20 per cent is the normal advance. And no written estimate means nothing is enforceable at delivery.
Check the GST number on the GST portal before you pay anything. Confirm that the crew and the vehicle are in-house rather than subcontracted. Ask for the insurance terms in writing. Packing material is charged at cost on its own line. Transit insurance is a separate line at 2 to 3 per cent of the declared value.
Not included by default: GST at 18 per cent on a full service move, stair carries beyond one flight at Rs 800 to Rs 2,000 per floor, tolls and state permits on an intercity run, waiting charges at either end, and any storage days. How the moving process works, step by step
Step one is the survey. A surveyor counts the inventory room by room and notes the lift, the floor and the distance from the building to where the truck can stand. On an intercity move the survey can run over a video call. Step two is the written estimate. It separates packing material, labour, transport, tolls and insurance into their own lines, and the total is the number held at delivery.
Step three is the packing day. The crew arrives with the material the estimate named. Cartons are labelled by room, beds and wardrobes come apart, and fragile items get two layers of wrap and are photographed before the wrap goes on. Step four is loading inside the building's working window, with the vehicle sealed in front of you and the driver contact shared before it leaves.
Step five is transit. The coordinator updates you at each halt and the driver calls an hour out from the destination. Step six is delivery. Each item is placed in the room the label says, furniture is reassembled where it stands, and the delivery receipt is signed only after the inventory has been checked against the list that left the pickup.
